Anora star Mikey Madison doesn’t quite know what the future will hold after her surprise win at the 2025 Oscars ceremony, but she knows one thing she’ll do on her big night that is not exactly glamorous.
Madison, who bested presumed frontrunner Demi Moore to win best actress on Sunday, told reporters at the Academy Awards press room after her win that she has not yet processed its potential impact on her career.
“I’ve been thinking about the future a lot — and also the past,” Madison said when asked how she hopes the Oscar might influence her path. “And I’ve been really trying to remind myself to stay as present as possible throughout all of this, so I don’t know. I really don’t know what will happen in the future. I just want to keep making movies and continue to work with people who inspire me and play interesting characters, tell stories that are compelling.”
She continued, “I just know that tonight I’m going to go home to my new puppies and probably clean up their mess, and it’s gonna bring me right down to earth.”
Director Sean Baker’s Anora — which won five Oscars, including best picture — centers on Ani (Madison), a young sex worker who impulsively marries the son of a powerful Russian businessman. During her acceptance speech, Madison said she appreciated the chance to honor the sex worker community.
“I will continue to support and be an ally,” the Better Things alum said from the podium. “All of the incredible women I have had the privilege of meeting from that community have been one of the highlights of this entire experience.”
