You would be hard-pressed to find a busier person in Hollywood than Nicole Kidman, who in the last year or so has released Expats, A Family Affair, The Perfect Couple, Spellbound, Babygirl and season two of Lioness.
Come 2025 she is back again with a new film, Holland, in which she plays a picture-perfect teacher and homemaker in the small midwestern town of Holland, Mich., who suspects her husband (played by Matthew Macfadyen) of living a double life. She and her friend (Gael García Bernal) then uncover a twisted secret along the way.
The Prime Video film premiered at SXSW in Austin on Sunday, as Kidman told The Hollywood Reporter that she will finally have a break on the horizon, noting this year is “actually not as crazy. I was much more out there last year; this year I have Holland, I have Nine Perfect Strangers, and then I’m off for the rest of year. So, oh well!” she added with a laugh.
Kidman is also a producer on Holland, directed by Fresh filmmaker Mimi Cave; the director said that the star “was a real champion of the script and a champion of me, so I think that’s the largest contribution to be honest. She really believes in directors, so once it’s in my hands or any director’s hands, she lets you go.”
Macfadyen said upon reading the script he “thought it was bonkers” and was drawn in by the mystery-thriller genre, which he had never done before. “I thought it was tonally really fascinating and stylized and stylish and fun,” he added. “I’d seen Mimi’s first film and was so impressed with it and thought I just wanted to be part of it.”
Holland will start streaming March 27 on Prime Video.
