Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t keeping her lips sealed about being Timothée Chalamet‘s onscreen love interest.
In her April cover story for Vanity Fair, published on Tuesday, Paltrow opened up about starring opposite Chalamet in the upcoming film Marty Supreme, which is directed by Josh Safdie and is his follow-up to 2019’s Uncut Gems, which he co-directed with his brother, Benny Safdie. The film is about a professional Ping Pong player named Marty Mauser, played by Chalamet, in the 1950s.
Last fall, photos of Chalamet and Paltrow kissing on the set of the film in Central Park leaked and caused a lot of online chatter. Gwyneth told the publication about their relationship in the movie.
“This woman who is married to someone who is in the Ping Pong mafia, as it were,” and then sparks up a romance with Chalamet. “They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both.”
Paltrow then teased the romance between their characters. “I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie,” she said. “There’s a lot—a lot.”

The Oscar-winner noted how she’d never seen a movie of Chalamet’s before working with the Dune star. “He’s such a thinking man’s sex symbol,” she said before adding that he’s “very polite” and “properly raised.” She continued, “He’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.”
Because of what their scenes together entailed, Paltrow was asked if she wanted an intimacy coordinator — which she never has before. “There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed,” Paltrow said.
She was asked by the intimacy coordinator to perform a specific move, and playfully replied, “I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.’” She recalled telling the coordinator along with Chalamet: “We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.’ I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but…if someone is like, ‘OK, and then he’s going to put his hand here’ I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that.”
Though Paltrow joked, when it came time for her and Chalamet’s sex scenes, she’d say: “I was like, ‘OK, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14.’”
Paltrow was convinced to join the project by her brother and filmmaker Jake Paltrow, who is a fan of Safdie’s work. Marty Supreme will also mark Paltrow’s big return to movies since last appearing in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Tyler the Creator, Kevin O’Leary and Odessa A’zion add to the cast. Safdie co-wrote the original screenplay with Ronald Bronstein. Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Bronstein, Safdie, Chalamet and A24 are all producers.
Marty Supreme is expected to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
