Netflix New Releases: March 2025

Meghan Markle’s delayed debut as a lifestyle goddess; a new epic series adaptation of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s The Leopard; the second spinoff movie in the fast expanding SpongeBob movie universe; a new season motorsports greatest docuseries; Anthony and Joe Russo’s latest big-budget feature; and a screwball murder mystery from Shondaland are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in March.

Finally debuting on March 4th is Netflix’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, which is hosted and executive produced by Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. The show was originally slated to launch on Jan. 15, but was postponed due to the Los Angeles wildfires. The unscripted series, which was filmed at a farmhouse in Montecito, California, is a blend of practical how-tos and candid interviews with prominent people. The guests slated for the first season include Roy Choi, Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer, Alice Waters, Vicky Tsai, and Prince Harry.

Launching on March 5th is a show that has the potential to become a global breakout hit for Netflix. The streamer’s Italian division has adapted Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s classic novel The Leopard (Il Gattopardo) as an epic period TV series. The book has previously been adapted for the big screen by Luchino Visconti in a 1963 film that starred Burt Lancaster and won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Netflix’s lush historical drama tackles the struggles of the aristocracy in 19th-century Sicily amid the attempts at the unification of Italy. The Leopard is directed by prolific TV helmer Tom Shankland, whose credits include The Fades (2011), Ripper Street (2012), The Missing (2014) and the excellent The Serpent (2021).

On March 7th, Netflix launches the latest installment in the ever-expanding SpongeBob Squarepants universe with the animated musical Plankton: The Movie. The story follows supervillain Plankton, still plugging away trying to take over the world, but this time his plans are thwarted by his supercomputer wife Karen. The film, directed by Dave Needham and written by Kaz, Chris Viscardi, and Mr. Lawrence, is the second SpongeBob universe spinoff and follows the 2024 Netflix release Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie.

Also debuting on March 7th, is the seventh season of Netflix’s enduringly popular sports docuseries Formula 1: Drive to Survive. F1 fans will be champing at the bit as the streamer once again takes us behind the scenes at the world’s greatest motorsport competition as the teams and drivers battle it out for the 2024 Formula One World Championship. Expect the usual drama and intrigue as we get a closer look at the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, Charles LeClerc, Max Verstappen, George Russell and Carlos Sainz Jr.

March 14 sees the debut of Netflix’s big-budget movie of the month, The Electric State. Avengers filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo helm this sci-fi action comedy drama that stars Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt and Ke Huy Quan. The film is based on Simon Stålenhag’s influential graphic novel and tells the story of an alternate version of the 1990s, sometime after a robot rebellion, where a orphaned teenager travels across America with a rag-tag bunch of comrades in search of her brother. The cast also includes Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci.

Imagine Only Murders In the Building, but that building is the White House. That seems to be the gist of Netflix’s new original comedy mystery series The Residence, which arrives on the platform on March 20. OK, the comparison might be superficial, but this new Shondaland production is billed as a screwball whodunnit with high political stakes. The logline reads: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner.” The show might be worth watching for the cast alone, with the likes of Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Randall Park, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Mary Wiseman as regulars, with a frankly ludicrous lineup of guest stars. Leading proceedings is three-time Emmy-winner Uzo Aduba.

Movies added to Netflix in March include Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, The Outrun, 50 First Dates, Beginners, Black Hawk Down, Blade Runner: The Final Cut, Blood and Bone, Do the Right Thing, Friday, High-Rise, The Holiday, Ma, National Security, Next Friday, Pride & Prejudice, Runaway Jury, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Sicario, Ted, Wedding Crashers.
