The Chosen is getting a streaming home in the United States.
As part of a wide-ranging deal with series creator Dallas Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios, Amazon’s Prime Video will become the exclusive U.S. streaming home to the series about the life of Jesus. Amazon MGM Studios will also distribute theatrical releases for key installments of the show’s final two seasons and has signed a first-look series and film deal with 5&2.
Prime Video has also ordered an unscripted series, The Chosen in the Wild With Bear Grylls, which will follow members of the cast and Jenkins on wilderness adventures with Grylls.
“The Chosen has had renowned success captivating audiences across generations, and we are looking forward to collaborating with Dallas and 5&2 Studios on a larger scale,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “As we look ahead, we see massive opportunities to develop additional faith-inspired content for our global Prime Video customers.”
Lionsgate, which acquired distribution rights to The Chosen in 2023, negotiated the licensing deal. CAA and attorney Andrew Kramer of Willkie Farr repped 5&2 Studios.
Prior seasons of The Chosen already stream on Prime Video, and other streamers have carried the show in the past as well. The new deal includes exclusive U.S. rights all seasons — including three yet to come — of the show. Season five is set to premiere theatrically on March 28 and debut on Prime Video in June.
“For several years, the team at Amazon MGM Studios has proved over and over they’re passionate about this show and our fans,” said Jenkins. “They’re going to make us better and get the show to more people, and I can’t wait to build this relationship.”
Added Jim Packer, president worldwide TV distribution at Lionsgate, “Amazon MGM Studios is the perfect partner to take this already highly sought-after property to the next level. This wide-ranging, multi-territory deal presents a unique opportunity to deepen engagement with The Chosen’s loyal fanbase while drawing in new viewers around the world.”
The theatrical component of the deal will see Amazon MGM distributing feature-length episodes about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, which will be part of the final two seasons of The Chosen. Jenkins and 5&2 Studios will also develop new series and film projects under the first-look agreement.
