The Perfect Couple wrapped up its murder-mystery story at the end of its six episodes, seemingly obviating the need to continue telling the story of the wealthy Winbury family. The show was also, however, one of Netflix’s most popular shows in the second half of 2024, suggesting viewers might want more.
The solution? Turn the show into an anthology series, which sources say Netflix is planning to do. The streamer is developing a possible second season of the show that would retain The Perfect Couple’s Nantucket setting but center on a different rich family, played by a new cast — and based on a different novel by Elin Hilderbrand.
Netflix declined comment.
The potential second season of The Perfect Couple would be based on Hilderbrand’s 2024 novel Swan Song, the fourth in a series set on Nantucket. The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo is adapting the book and will serve as showrunner. (Jenna Lamia was showrunner for season one.)
Swan Song follows what happens when the mysterious Richardson family buys a $22 million house on Nantucket. The Richardsons throw huge parties, flirt with locals, own two yachts and raise the hopes of everyone they meet. When their house burns down and the family’s most essential employee goes missing, the island’s residents are beside themselves.
The Perfect Couple premiered in September 2024 and brought in big viewing numbers, ranking second in views (total watch time divided by running time) and fifth in total hours watched on Netflix’s global charts for the second half of the year. For what it’s worth, the streamer referred to The Perfect Couple as “season one” rather than a limited series on both its weekly top 10 lists and its semiannual data release in late February.
Nicole Kidman, who starred in and executive produced season one, will again exec produce along with her Blossom Films partner Per Saari, Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, season one director Susanne Bier and Hend Baghdady.
